I have taught private guitar and piano lessons for the last four years. I really love sharing all I can with others to enable them to have a fun and fulfilling experience in learning music. An approach I favor with students is to help them learn songs that they pick and then use those songs as a springboard to teach skills such as technique, reading music, theory, and improvising. For beginning students I typicaly start with a introduction book like Hal Leonard's Guitar Method Book 1 for younger students, and Solo Guitar Playing book 1 by Fredrick Noad for older and experienced students. Once fundamental techniques are acquired, I introduce repertoire suited for each student and they can participate in a performance. Whatever instrument private studies we are working on, a balanced approach of performance, literature, theory, and technique are studied. Once the groundwork is established, we even work through composition on their chosen instrument. Students work at their own pace. I have some students who move quite swiftly through their levels, and that is great. Others may need more time, and that is fine. I do find that students who utilize regular and purposeful home practice will tend to get through levels a fair amount quicker. Read More

The type of material we can cover is very broad including scales, arpeggios, chords, chord construction, music theory, music reading, songwriting, learning songs, technique, etc... However it's very important to me to not teach material the student is uninterested in. Music is a language and every genre has its own language aside from music as a whole.
