I am a teacher and musician living in Los Angeles, CA, who enjoys sharing my love of music with students. During my lessons students will not only have fun but learn the valuable skills they will need to succeed in any playing setting. I have recorded dozens of albums and toured internationally, opening for artists like KD Lang, Ray LaMontagne, and Coldplay. I have also performed with Krist Novoselic of Nirvana, members of Counting Crows, and Snarky Puppy. Read More

I Try to get away from mechanism without joy. Everything has to be close to the music. Exercises to be actually doing them with a rhythm and time. Other than doing things musically, practicing in different times and intentions help a lot for the student to be open to play songs in different ways. Technique and theory are necessary tools. To apply concepts musically they need to do it with musical taste. Read More

While I have worn a fair amount of hats throughout mylife: computer scientist, photographer, musician, practicing attorney - the desire to teach others, to pass on my knowledge and see others succeed as a result, has been a constant presence for me. One of my very first paying jobs ever in my life, was that of an SAT tutor, which I started at the age of 19. From then until I started law school at age 21, tutoring high school age students preparing to take the SAT was a regular part of my life, and where I gained valuable experience in being a teacher and a mentor to high school age individuals. I like to mix instructional books with opportunities to learn songs outside of the text books appropriate to the student's interests, style, and skill level. For the guitar, I like Terry Carter's Rock Like the Pros, Beginning Class Guitar Method and Intermediate Class Guitar Method. These books have comprehensive practice exercises, including classical and popular music exercises, and great songs of all levels to learn. The Mel Bay and Alfred music method books are also great for guitar or drums. Read More

I began teaching quite early in my own guitar playing experience. Once I had the basics down, my friends would ask me to come to their house to show them how to play a few chords. It wasn't until close to 5 years ago when those friends kindly asked me to start teaching their children. It was then when I realized how much I loved teaching, so much in fact that I resigned from a cushy 9-5 office job to pursue teaching full time. Read More

I believe music is about expression and it is rewarding to find a way to help students to develop their own style. Therefore, it is important to know the student's needs and wants in order to establish a lesson plan. After reaching this first step it is easy to create some goals for each lesson. When the student feels that his needs and wants are fulfilled in the lessons, s/he gets more confident to work on new challenges. Read More
