As a music annotator, analyst and critic, I have worked for over 15 years with major arts agencies, technical journals and CD labels in performing arts media, technical writing, editing and proofreading, following a career as a successful classical touring musician. In 2010, after living 25 years in Manhattan, I moved back to where I was born – Bergen County. Working in my teaching studios in both Teaneck and New York, I specialize in teaching and coaching up-and-coming young musicians, college-bound guitarists, adults with backgrounds in other instruments, in classical, acoustic and crossover styles. The electric guitar quickly became a part of my identity, a part of my security, and has remained as a stable force in my life. I've been lucky to have a diverse professional musical career, studying jazz at SUNY New Paltz, nationally touring in a Zydeco Punk band, fronting my own band of originals, singing and playing guitar in rock musicals, and composing soundtracks. All while keeping up my teaching practice. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs to make them confident, healthy, and efficient singers or players. Read More

My start as a full-time multimedia teacher was with a company called Rivoli Music. I had taught 25-30 Japanese women... It got tight in places (language) but it was mostly pleasure having the students' Photoshop, Flash, then make FLV video with original soundtracks. I had enough experience after 8+ years of working and teaching to become a full-time teaching musician again... I loved showing my original work to the public (C.E.I.G.), and the public to the classroom to studies on how it was constructed. Read More

After teaching for 12 years I don't have a fixed method. I have categories of students, from children who are trying to function in a band setting, to children who are trying to develop a musical or compositional talent. I take particular joy in teaching adults who believe it is too late to achieve levels of technical proficiency that would make them proud. My journey from classical music to jazz through pop, swing, rock, soul and folk has taught me how to blend in with any style, and my classical education has given me the necessary toolbox to communicate about advanced theoretical concepts with students who are interested. For beginning students, I prefer to start them on a book based in warming up and getting used to movement in hands if we are playing piano. Throughout my teaching, I incorporate music theory and ear training into my classes as it creates a fantastic bridge to understanding the instrument. As we get used to our new instrument, I will recommend some songs to get started on and allow my students to come to class with ideas and songs that they want to learn how to play or sing. Read More
