I'm a rather relaxed individual, and I don't like making my students feel pressured into achieving a specific goal in a strict manner. My attitude allows students to accept mistakes as part of the journey of guitar playing, while at the same time understanding that it is the correction of mistakes and discipline to play correctly that segways into higher level playing, and that the ultimate drive behind guitar playing is the passion to learn and expand their horizons either by attempting new techniques or ideas, or simply being exposed to new types of music. I began teaching private guitar lessons while in high school around 2007. After college I moved to New Bedford, MA to start teaching at a local music store, Double Bar Music. During this time I also created and taught a guitar workshop at the Southcoast YMCA for children ages 6 to 14. Read More

I first taught private lessons back in 2008 when I was around 16 years old. Since then, I have met some of my dearest friends and acquaintances through both teaching and performing. For 7 years, I was the primary Guitar instructor at Boston Harbor Scottish Fiddle School until its closing in 2019. I have been flown out to Northern California every summer for the past 3 years to teach at Alasdair Fraser's Sierra Fiddle camp, a week long Celtic music program. Read More

I began teaching my friends and family for fun in my early teens. My mom is a teacher and she taught me the basics of guitar at a young age. By the time I graduated High School it seemed like being a guitar instructor was the only job for me. It still seems that way, however I have expanded my business towards building and repairing guitars, amplifiers, and effect pedals. Read More

After the first lesson, I will break up lessons into warmups (stretches and fretboard exercises), the study of repertoire (learning melodies and chords), and the relevant technique (scales, picking approaches, etc) for which the music calls. Time spent discussing theory will likely emerge from the teaching of the song, but can be approached with a variable level of depth - students less interested in theory will still come away from a lesson with some awareness of what's making the music work; students more interested in theory are welcomed to dig deeper - with the awareness that theory may function as a useful tool to understand a piece of music, or even generate new material, but that the end-goal, ultimately, is to produce a piece of music; not a theorem. For beginning students I prefer to use either Alfred's, Mel Bay, or Hal Leonard method books. I generally stay away from method books that use guitar tablature because I find that student will prefer to read the tablature instead of standard musical notation. Tablature is a good way to easily show how guitar parts are played, but is not useful when teaching standard notation, music theory, harmony, etc. In addition to using a method book, I will also teach the student popular songs, which is a great way to start teaching chords and song structure in addition to keeping the lesson fun and the student engaged. With beginners and especially children, I only assume that one's knowledge of the guitar is at best at a basic level. I'll begin by teaching how to hold the instrument as well as posture. Also I'll teach basic strumming patterns for the student to get familiar with the guitar. With students at an intermediate level, I'll ask how much they may already know, or what they would like to learn. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
