I taught students ages 5-7 in the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls' Jumpstart program, and ages 8-18 in Willie Mae's Girls Rock Program. At Willie Mae, I taught mostly group lessons. I have also taught group theory and fundamentals lessons at the Brooklyn Music School in Fort Greene, where I work currently as a counselor. I enjoy teaching one-on-one lessons because they tend to allow for a more productive (and fun!) learning environment. Read More

Like I said, every lesson is specific to the student. I don't use a "method" on all my students. I can teach classical music and technicality, to jazz songs and improvisation, to songwriting and pop/folk oriented style of playing. I try to give accurate and appropriate material to students depending on their needs and interests. Read More

My style of teaching is very much influenced by my amazing professors that I studied with in college. What I find most rewarding is when I teach students that truly practice and try their very best to improve and absorb the information. When the students' passion and thirst for improvement comes through to me it makes the lessons that much more engaging and fun. I am highly encouraging and very particular with practice routine, planning and structure. Read More

My teaching style is based on whatever the goals of my student are. If they want to write their own music in a particular style, then I am helping them analyze music that they are influenced by to better understand how to add it to their vocabulary. Read More

Hi! I'm Kurt, singer-songwriter/composer, a multi-instrumentalist, and a patient and natural teacher. I've been playing guitar for over 20 years, piano for almost 20. I release music as "The Broadest Blue"; I am in the process of recording my second album--the first (plus two singles) are available on all streaming platforms. I've played every little bar venue in the East Village, directing a complex musical outfit built to play music with brass and string parts (all music, lyrics, and arrangements written by me). I focus on nurturing a students natural curiosity, while helping them find the tools to pursue their own musical interests. Many of my younger students prefer to use technology to connect with music (learning how songs are recorded, and the theory behind songwriting), but I also work with more serious students to prepare for college auditions, state/regional jazz band, etc. My methods differ depending on a student's own goals, but they generally all will start with a technical exercise, an exercise designed to get the student thinking critically, and an application of the concepts we're learning.
