My teaching style is light and fun and geared to the temperament of the child and the specific goals of the parent. My methods are traditional pedagogy. With younger students under the age of 5 and special needs students I make use of tactical manipulatives for example play doh to assist with fine motor skills. I typically do not make lesson plans but go off of what a student wants to learn. I can make lesson plans upon request. Usually, for in-person lessons, we will play together and then talk about our playing. I will provide recommended exercises to do in between lessons. I was placed in an Alternative High School in Manhattan called City As High School where I worked with students aged 16-21. For me, the most vital aspect of teaching involves creating a self-motivated student. I believe that you can do this by teaching music that is of interest to the person you're teaching, and by introducing material that is graded in such a way that it is always a little bit more challenging than what your student is used to (no matter the level they happen to play at). If a student has no reason to practice by themselves, and if a sense of curiosity and desire for exploration and accomplishment haven't been developed, the teaching itself becomes obsolete. Read More
