Taking that into account, there is always an evaluation performed to gauge competency of the instrument and knowledge of music theory if you're not a beginner. If the student is a beginner, I always start with the basics, music theory, parts of the guitar, maintenance of the instrument. I usually use one of Hal Leonard books for a true reference point of fundementals. My focus is on Technique, Warm ups, and Injury Prevention on each instrument. I like to give precise instructions on how to build up discipline and practice regimens.
