For beginning students I use Mel Bay Guitar Book 1 for standard notation reading along with my book Fret Board Explorers which has finger strengthening drills,and various picking exercises. Along the way I introduce basic chords teaching the correct fingering. In addition to that I introduce scales, arpeggios and chord inversions. Often there are students with previous instructors and I have no trouble picking up where the student left off. I can recommend books or a series as well as supplemental skills practice books. I have been teaching children of late, so I start with basic skills of holding the instrument and learning about the instrument and the strings notes.
