For every student I construct a personalized lesson plan, I enjoy the teaching experience at all levels and environments. I like to emphasize progress in small intervals and continued interest through fun and self confidence with the instrument. It is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson with large 3 moth lesson plans for overall growth and improvement. Read More

Books I use for teaching Piano is the Piano Adventures series of books by Nancy and Randall Faber, which is a great lesson book and a good basic piano method for beginners through intermediate level students. For guitar I use the Hal Leonard Incredible Chord Finder and the Warren Nunes Jazz guitar Rhythm and Background Chords and the Solo Patterns book. Also For both Piano and Guitar I have accumulated many charts and Berklee School of Music pages to use as students start to progress. Read More

Due to my experience working with multiple grade/age levels, I have learned to carefully fine tune my teaching strategy for each individual student that I work with. At the beginner level I typically work from method books to ensure a solid development of performance fundamentals. I also like to spend a good bit of time establishing successful warm-up and practice routines. With intermediate level students I continue with more challenging method books as well as standard musical excerpts and etudes. Read More

I believe goals are very important in order to progress. However, each student progresses at their own pace. I like setting small goals weekly, and often times incorporate techniques into songs. Seeing students achieve their goals is one of the most rewarding aspects of the job. I'll ask students to bring pencil and paper to each lesson and will designate technical goals, fretboard knowledge, and whatever the student's goal is (learning a song, another scale, solo part, etc). My methods are based on what I have personally tried and proven to be beneficial. The three main methods I find to be extremely important are the Arban book, and the Clarke technical and characteristic studies. In addition, I've found equally important the Earl Irons long tone and flexibility exercises. I like to find out what the student is most interested in a tailor the practice regiment accordingly. Once we start to master the basics, we can move on to specific musical styles that the student wishes to pursue. Read More
