I'm a teacher, music therapist and performer. I have been playing guitar for over 30 years and teaching for more than 20. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from SUNY New Paltz and upon graduating I taught lessons and did various gigs for a little over 10 years. I then attended Montclair State University where I studied music therapy. I love working with students of all ages, whether it be in music therapy sessions or guitar lessons. Read More

I listen and watch students and learn from them what it is they need, going from wherever they may be with the instrument, to the next step. And then beyond, all at a pace which motivates them while making them confident they have what they need to enjoy their own music. Each student is unique and I tailor what we do to their age, level of experience, musical aspirations and personality. Read More

I tailor the program to the student's needs. A student seeking a traditional eduction would be presented with method materials such as Simandl, as well as Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Pop, jazz and other genres of music could be explored, depending on the goals of the student. As a jazz musician, I find that learning multiple styles opens up whole worlds of expression and concept. I have studied with classical players as well, and have worked through method books and excerpts. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I start with the book "Learn to play piano" for piano students and for guitar "Learn to play guitar." It is a basic book with specific essential elements for reading and understanding music. As the student progresses I use to introduce songs for their repertoire applying what they leaned in the book. For Voice lessons is more practice, which includes exercises for breathing, diction, tune, Corporal expressions among others. Read More

I begin assessing where the student's current level is by having them sing a song of their choice for me. Depending on what we need to work, I will spend the lessons focusing on certain areas to improve (e.g. breath support, jaw/neck tension, posture, pitch, range, diction, phrasing, etc.). Each week, the student will be assigned things to work on during the week that we accomplished in the lesson. Read More
