I certainly have adopted the teaching styles of my previous and current instructors, each bringing a unique approach to teaching an instrument. Patience and understand is crucial with any students, and there needs to be a lot of fun and excitement within a lesson, otherwise, what is the point? Now, fun and excitement must also be met with serious practice time and great concentration during a lesson. My objective is to create a comfortable environment fertile for learning, while at the same time having my students know there are skills to refine and concepts to solidify. Read More

Upon a student's evaluation every lesson with any student should form it's own branch or life of it's own. Music is a passionate expression. I help students understand their instruments. Self expression, individualism, and self composition are traits I sought as a student and musician. My joy as a teacher, instructor and mentor is seeing the excitement someone achieves when they finally feel the "got it" or are starting to connect the dots. Read More

I have twelve years of post-graduate experience teaching individual music lessons to kids of all ages and adults as well. I have also taught music in Montessori school so am familiar with all different learning styles. I am also comfortable teaching kids with special needs, especially ASD. They tend to be very good at music lessons because of the focused attention I give them. I keep my teaching style conversational and fun, at a pace the student can handle. Read More

I am an avid music lover, performer, and teacher. I was lucky to study piano from a young age and have the amazing pre-collegiate experiences of appearing on MTV's Made and opening for the likes of McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, and Bela Fleck. I then received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where I studied saxophone performance as well as piano, songwriting, and audio production. I then moved to San Diego, CA and opened for The Wailers, Nappy Roots, Eve 6, Steel Pulse, Shawn Colvin before touring the country. Read More

I am a current student at Ball State University studying to receive a Bachelor of Science Degree in Instrumental/General Music Education with an add-on in Vocal Education. I am passionate about teaching music and helping others reach their full potential on whatever instruments they want to play. I am versatile and can play on almost every instrument with piano as my primary focus. When I am not teaching, I spend my time practicing, performing, and always striving to improve on any and every instrument I have available. Read More

For piano, I typically use the Faber Piano Adventures Series; however, I am open to other method books as well. The Faber series has theory, technique, lesson, and performance books, each with different skills and techniques to learn. I find that those books offer the most comprehensive learning. In addition to the Faber books, I also utilize online worksheets for supplemental learning. For guitar, I typically use online worksheets and chord sheets, and from there, I encourage students to purchase specific guitar books they are interested in (for example, Disney books, classic rock books, Beatles books, etc.). I like to teach students a few easy chords to get them started. Hundreds of songs can be play with only 3 chords. I also like to teach students some 2-note chords also called power chords. Rock and roll and blues are often played with power chords. I find that students can begin playing some common rock and blues rhythms only after a few lessons. Read More
