I am a passionate Christian and motivated drum instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. Since 2007 I've been apart of The Salvation Army Indiana Divisional Band. Since 2011 I have the pleasure of working as a freelance drummer. I also had the joy of working as a drum teacher at Cornerstone Center for the Arts (Muncie, IN). For students that are children or just beginning I start with establishing foundations in music structure and rhythm. The Suzuki school of teaching is often used but not always. Intermediate students are flexible with where the lesson plan is headed while each lesson is tailored to the individual student's learning style. Intermediate students are coached on form, music theory, and musicality. I individualize my teaching methods for each student based on their ability level. After I assess the ability level, I find level-appropriate method books, scale studies, etudes, tone exercises, sight reading, and solo repertoire. I use method books that I am personally familiar with and like, but am open to looking for new, exciting options. I make sure that the students feels comfortable with materials, but is also challanged so that they may progress in their skills. Read More

This is the most difficult part of drumming. If I can teach a student this, then I can teach them anything. The advanced that can already hold a steady beat, I like to develop runs and fills on the drums. I can take them into a deeper understanding of how fills can take a song to the next level. Similar to what is written above I prefer an approach that is rooted in the fundamentals. It is my belief that learning these well can serve a student later on when the music starts to become more difficult. Most students I have that have learned in this way tend to not get overwhelmed and are able to transition to higher levels of playing more easily.
