Piano - there are as many method books as there are different kinds of pianos! I use, but am not limited to, the following: Faber, Noona, Wunderkeys, Pianotown, Alfred, Helen Mier, Snell, and more. I like to start any student that comes to me with what they already have. For a young student - I will start with Faber as it is the easiest to understand for younger players. I always strive to be as patient as possible with my students. I do my best to tailor the pace at which we move through material to the specific student I am teaching. This is much more feasible in individual lessons as opposed to the more structured and scheduled group classes I teach. Both technical exercises and new pieces of music are approached slowly and methodically at first, in an effort to ensure each student has a complete understanding of the purpose of exercises, or what is occurring in a particular passage of music. For students that are children or just beginning I start with establishing foundations in music structure and rhythm. The Suzuki school of teaching is often used but not always. Intermediate students are flexible with where the lesson plan is headed while each lesson is tailored to the individual student's learning style. Intermediate students are coached on form, music theory, and musicality. I have maintained a private studio for the past five years, before which I taught at the Florida State Summer Music Festival for intermediate and advanced pianists, delivering practice coaching, masterclasses, applied lessons, and lectures.
