For my students, I tailor my methods based on the specific student's musical goals and their experience. I use a combination of method books and my own original teaching material to emphasize certain topics/skills. Instead of going from one page to the next in a music book, I like to combine multiple books and original practices to keep my students interested. Some of my students want to learn theory, some want to learn improvisation and some just want to learn their favorite songs. Read More

When I see a smile on someone's face in the presence of a musical accomplishment, the spiritual reward for that service is something I live for! To be able to help a student attain their goals requires a flexible teaching style, that can cater to every type of person. Positive affirmations are a key ingredient to helping a student feel good about they mile stones, but remaining realistic for the student at the same time allows them to make progress at their own pace, and feel good about it nonetheless. For beginning students, I usually like to start off teaching basic guitar fundamentals. We would go over guitar methods such as fingerstyle exercises, left hand exercises, chords, and basic sight-reading. After the student has considerably grasped basic fundamentals, I would start introducing repertoire appropriate for their reading level. For more advanced students, we would work on more advanced musical concepts such as phrasing, articulation, and tone control. I also try to keep my lessons relaxed and comfortable. Read More

My primary goal is to fill the student with the love of guitar and the passion to continue and grow. This is accomplished by continuing to challenge the student while keeping the process as interesting and fun as possible. I encourage the student to choose songs they want to work on rather than my dictating the music. This keeps it fun and interesting, and sometimes presents a challenge for me if their tastes are a little eclectic. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I usually start with technique exercises that will help develop the foundation of their playing. I do not introduce music notation usually until the fifth or sixth lesson. I believe that kids learn faster when they beginning learning by call and response or like many call imitation. By developing first the ability to listen and play by instinct a student can develop a stronger foundation in developing the beat and noticing high and low pitches. Read More
