Due to my experience working with multiple grade/age levels, I have learned to carefully fine tune my teaching strategy for each individual student that I work with. At the beginner level I typically work from method books to ensure a solid development of performance fundamentals. I also like to spend a good bit of time establishing successful warm-up and practice routines. With intermediate level students I continue with more challenging method books as well as standard musical excerpts and etudes. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. When working at my studio, the milestones each student accomplishes are recorded in an audio format that the student can keep as a trophy and to listen to his progress. Read More

I first started teaching how to play guitar and giving music lessons when I began to go to college, I used to teach as a part time job while I was studying, when I've graduated I switched from part time to full time, I've worked in several music institutions and I'd also given private classes, nowadays I devote this by doing more private classes in students homes and online, maybe soon I'll have my own studio to teach where I can bring my students into a more comfortable environment with more teaching tools for the learning process. For every one of my beginning students who wants to start playing the guitar or singing, I will alway start them off the best and most knowlegable way I know how, which would be a beginners guide. I started with Hal Leonard's Essential book 1 when I first started learning, and I have always used Hal Leonard's Essential guides for my students. If a student is an intermediate, I can find out where they're at and help them with any handicaps they may have, and point them in the right direction. ***Important note: I am able to teach online via SKYPE or FACETIME as well as in home or studio. I started teaching guitar lessons in the Spring of 1982 while in my first year of college. Since then I've evolved from teaching at various independent music shops to teaching music lessons at my home studio. From 1982 until 1984 I was an independent traveling teacher while attending college. From 1997 through 2001 I worked as a lesson instructor for bass and guitar at Pete's Music Barn in Laytonsville Maryland until they went out of business. Read More

PRACTICE. The bottom line way to get good at guitar is to PLAY IT. We can show you all kinds of techniques and theory but you have to want to pick up that thing and have it in your hands. Fiddle with it during the TV commercials. You have a need to squeeze that neck everyday. Together we can expand your knowledge base, but you hold the ultimate key to your success - practice. I really covered this in the above information,so continuing in more detail,it really depends on each individual student, their level of ability and age that determine the course of study. It also depends on the instrument. Some instruments like piano, violin or viola, books are more practical because the music is notated. With most fretted instruments, music is written in tableture which was originally used for the lute and brought back i think in the 1970s.Its easier than reading music and is more practical for those instruments.
