I teach kids with Frederick Noad's Guitar Solo Playing and also I adopt the guitar curriculum created by Austin Classical Guitar. Both methods provide several pieces that the kid plays with the teacher. In this way, while the kids play simple notes/lines and start developing some skills (musical and technical), they are making beautiful music together with the teacher or other students. I worked as a teacher assistant using the Austin Guitar Curriculum at Adams Elementary School (St Louis), and the results were great. Read More

Setting realistic goals is definitely a good place to start. Also, I encourage transcribing music in small sections, and to always start slow and take deep breaths, as this will reduce the student's normal anxiety and has done wonders in my own playing as well. Using a rhythm reference like a metronome or a drum loop while practicing is also a must, at it helps develop the student's groove. Internalizing music by developing the student's ear is also a very important part of my teaching style as Is applicable in any genre (hear it before you play it!) Read More

I like to work based on what each student needs. I encourage the student to take his or her own interests into account on a regular basis. I also use a basic foundation to determine what the student needs to attack first, such as technique, harmony, ear trinning and scales. Of course, finger, pick, and slap styles are included. All kind of styles & genres are welcome, from the more basic to the more complex genres. Read More

Hi, I am a highly passionate and devoted instructor. Music has captivated my mind and imagination all of my life, so having the opportunity to teach an instrument, music theory, and talk about music is something I genuinely cherish. I graduated from the University of California, San Diego in June of 2023, and have been working as a guitar instructor for just about 3 years now. I have spent 11 years with the guitar, and even spent 6 years as part of an advanced choir before college. Read More

I use various methods and books depending on the style, age, ability etc. I always keep my eye out for new books and open to suggestions. A few examples. With classical guitar students who are over 10 yo I prefer to use Christopher Parkening Guitar Method and Frederick Noad "Solo Guitar Playing" The latter suits more mature (both mentally and physically) students. With younger guitar students , 6-9 yo, I usually start by using basic guitar methods such as Hal Leonard Essential elements or "Everybody's Guitar Method" and my own easy arrangements of popular songs before shifting to Parkening. I approach teaching with an empathetic, open mind. I truly want to get to know my students and their goals, so I can help them the best I can. I'm very patient and will push a student to do more but at their own pace. I help students use mindset and visualization tricks to unlock new potential. I'm very motivation oriented and encourage my students as best I can when things are more difficult. Read More

I have taught quite literally all ages. 5-75. Styles and lesson books used varied depending upon student and school. I usually taught Suzuki for violin, viola and classical guitar (tend to prefer Scott Tennant Pumping Nylon book for classical guitar though). And usually Faber Piano Adventures for young piano students. Eventually going to Clementi Sonatinas and Chopin Preludes. Also Mel Bay Modern Guitar for beginning rock/jazz guitarists. Then eventually going to Mickey Bakers Jazz Guitar books. Read More
