My methods revolve wholly and completely around my students wants and needs. Generally for beginner students I will start by going over the basics, a small amount of essential music theory, how to read tabs and chord diagrams, and the different components and notes on a guitar or bass, before moving onto the fun part Ive found students tend to want to practice and play more when they are learning songs they love the most. Then we move on to lead structure and techniques. I teach to give the students what is needed to be a modern musician in the real world and all the tools they need to learn any piece of music they are interested in long after I'm no longer teaching the student. I take them from beginner to advance with everything they need to be a modern professional in the real world. Read More

I've always believed that learning comes 50% from the teacher, and 50% from the student. I do teach through lesson books but I've always found that they're better used as a guide rather than the focus of every lesson. I like to give the students the freedom to learn what they want to learn. I've always been willing to go the extra mile for my students, not just show up every week and continue from page 20 to see how far we get in the lesson book. Read More

For guitar- I studied under Mike Christensen at Utah States University. I use his guitar books that he has written. For piano- I use Alfred''s piano books. They are very well written and are geared for success! For flute- I start with Suzuki and then the sky is the limit! I like playing music theory games with kids. It is more enjoyable to learn this when it is a game. Read More

My focus is always on the individual student and their music interests and goals. I do begin with foundational skills, music theory that is applicable to the knowledge level of my students, and technique building. However, I want my students to start to play songs as soon as possible and we only work on songs that THEY choose - I do not force students to learn songs that I select or songs that a book tells them to. My experience as a teacher covers teaching guitar to beginners and intermediate level children and adults. As a private teacher, I usually go to the student's preferred location to teach. Here in America, I also worked as a teacher's aide at Sterling Elementary School in Tooele-UT. This experience gave me even more ease in teaching children, who naturally need a very attentive and patient approach. I believe that my role as a teacher is for the student to learn to play the instrument in an easy, pleasant and intuitive way, based on theoretical and practical learning in an combined way.
