It is so vital to the student’s success to enjoy the lesson plan. I start beginners with the basic fundamentals, learning chord progression, and the anatomy of the guitar, utilizing a wealth of friendly user print outs such as chords, scales, blank guitar necks, etc. Adult learners need positive reinforcement and encouragement as well, helping them to overcome barriers in their thinking, listening to them as to their goals, and marking out a clearly defined objective for the learning experience. I began taking private lessons shortly after I joined the band program in middle school. I continued to take lessons all throughout high school and college. Shortly after graduating high school I was offered the position of drum instructor. During college I taught for several years as the drum instructor at Winter Haven High School. I teach my students to use their ears to guide them through learning. I give them the ability to experiment and work outside the box. In my experience, this has lead to far greater musicianship rather than strictly focusing on sheet music. On the other hand, music theory plays a role as well. Once the student has understanding of this approach they will realize they will be able to apply this not only to guitar but too many other instruments and songwriting as well. Read More

Naturally different people will gravitate towards different things. By putting some time in and figuring out their strengths and weaknesses, I can address certain concepts accordingly. Personal preference is very important; you can't force enthusiasm. Read More

There can be as much art as to crafting the right sound coming out of your amp, as the craft of originating the notes on your fret board. I can also teach in the area of MIDI guitar. MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Information. This is an industry standard that allows for synth guitars and keyboards to communicate with each other and work together. I have one guitar system I custom built that drives three synth modules. Read More

Music did not provide the level of intellectual stimulation needed. So, I chose to obtain a degree in School Psychology, to satisfy intellectual curiousity and continue with music integrating the two where possible. Now retired from psychology, teaching music allows me to combine psychology skills and music to focus on efficient learning techniques for others. I have professional experience in delivering psychological service and music instructionto the developmental spectrum. Integrating these two passions affords wonderful opportunities todevelop and applycreative ideas to help others achieve goals in learning to play stringed instruments more efficiently than they would otherwise.
