Hello! I'm a Berklee College of Music Alumnus with 20+ years playing experience! I started studying the saxophone at 9 years old and spent most of my early school years performing in community, school, and local college jazz bands around the Seattle-Tacoma area of Washington State. My music has given me the opportunity to travel the world, and in summer of 2016, I conducted a tour of Kenya, Uganda, and Rwanda with my band the AfroXchange in conjunction with music therapy organization Global Youth Groove where I hosted jazz masterclasses, as well as performed at clubs and festivals, and assisted a music therapy team around the countryside. I cater lessons to YOUR needs and goals. I am not invested in there being a "right" technique of any kind. Together we will create a custom approach so that you will love the experience of playing the music you love.  I will share fun and efficient ways to practice so that you get immediate results. If desired, I also guarantee you will be playing a blues and improvising within a maximum of 6 weeks as long as you practice at least 10 minutes, three times a week.  You will have the option of playing along with recordings minus your part so that you can experience the joy of ensemble playing early on in the safety of your own home. I love creating small ensemble groups of students at similar levels and arranging concerts at regular intervals. I also worked as a School Aged Child Care Leader at Sandburg Elementary School from 2015 to 2018, further honing my skills in working with children ages 5 to 11. In 2019, I attended Marrowstone Music Festival as a Fellow. This gave me the opportunity to mentor high school and undergraduate flutists individually and during sectionals and to coach a student wind quintet. I also pay special attention to the goals and desires of the student's guardians to know what I do to help students reach their full potential. In addition to seeing music through each individual student's eyes, I foster a sense of community by encouraging communication, coordinating chamber music and performing recitals, and providing other means of continued learning. I make myself available via email and phone, always doing everything I can to continue the students' engagement outside of their lesson. My teaching career started during college when I began teaching virtual private flute lessons during the pandemic. Since then, I have held teaching positions at various summer programs teaching music to elementary school children. My main goals in teaching are to ensure that the student is having fun and enjoying the music that they play and that classical music and instrumental instruction are accessible to students of all backgrounds. I have had various private students since 2006, teaching students in many topics including, saxophone, clarinet, jazz theory, composition, improvisation, and jazz piano. From summer of 2013 to spring of 2018 I taught private saxophone and clarinet lessons for Shrewsbury Public Schools, while taking private piano, clarinet, and theory students from the Music Teachers Network referral until 2017.
