Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Synthesizer Recorder

I was born in the birthplace of blues and jazz, Baton Rouge, Louisiana. In conjunction with my college music degree, I had the opportunity to preform on stage with some of the greatest names in blues music including Big Luther Kent, Sundanze, Tabby Thomas, Jo Monk, Boogie Long, and on, and on. I went on to dig deeply into the classic and modern Jazz, funk, and soul with my band Captain Green. Read More

I am an enthusiastic and positive flutist who enjoys teaching willing students, and I am always excited to share my musical ideas with others. I love living in Colorado and I currently play with the Denver Philharmonic Orchestra. Last year, I graduated with my Doctor of Musical Arts degree in flute performance and pedagogy from the University of Colorado, studying with Christina Jennings and working as a Teaching Assistant within the flute studio. My approach to teaching is very interactive. I seek to provide my students with many different was to experience music including singing, playing, listening and analyzing. In this way, my students may make lasting connections with music and find success in many different areas of study. I, as well, strive to be the best example I can be for my students so that they may see musical possibilities which may not be presented to them otherwise. Read More

From there, her music career quickly blossomed and just two years later at the age of nineteen, she found herself in the beautiful city of Boston, studying classical flute performance at the renowned Berklee College of Music. In pursuit of further enrichment, Anna Kate transferred to the Boston Conservatory two years later. The mentors she’s practiced under throughout her years are highly-regarded and sought after in the community, to name a few: Patricia Surman, Wendy Rolfe, Katherine Kemler, Mihi Kim of France, Heather Yarmel, and Ann Bobo of the Boston Pops. I've been playing flute for over 15 years and have taken advanced private lessons myself for over 8 years. In my own journey as a musician, I've realized the importance of regular practice time and setting short and long term goals. In my time teaching younger students, I've learned that locking down the basics of tone and breath control are crucial techniques for becoming a great musician. It's also important to have a good mix of repertoire between classical and modern/pop pieces. Read More

I have picked up and loved the flute for 13 years, and I wish to share this passion and creativity with students.  I have had the opportunity to study under Emily McKay and Marco Granados, as well as perform in masterclasses with Trevor Wye, William Bennett, and Lorna Mcghee.  As a recent Denver citizen, I wish to grow my roots as a teacher who fosters flute playing as a fun and outside-the-box activity. Instruments: Piano Saxophone Flute Bass Guitar

I started teaching two years ago at a private lesson studio in Denver called My Music Skool. My main focus was on piano and saxophone. Now I teach privately as a freelance musician. Two points I emphasize when teaching are practicing at least once a day no matter how long you play and learning what inspires you. There will always be some sort of theory I sneak in whether it's learning scales or building technical skills that will build confidence and ability, but if these devices aren't being applied to the type of music that inspires the student, then learning music becomes discouraging instead of fun.
