I have been teaching for more than 30 years, mostly in the public schools as well as privately. I have instructed large groups and ensembles, as well as smaller musical groups in and out of the public schools. I have created my own method of teaching which I have perfected over the years. I create my own exercises and practice materials based on the level and interests of each individual student. I use the software program "Finale" in order to create the musical compositions that I prepare for my students. I always accompany my students on the piano. I focus on the individual more than anything else. I tailor my teaching style to each student.  When something clicks for them, I stick with it and adapt to keep the student engaged, interested, and passionate about music.  If I find a student is not fond of a certain book or solo, we change course together. I will always praise them when they make improvements, no matter how small, but I will still make sure they know what it is they have to work on without reprimanding them. For elementary students, I usually have them work out of Standard of Excellence books or Rubank Elementary method books and supplement them with fun popular music they enjoy to play. For middle school and high school students, I encourage them to work on appropriate solos, scales, and duets we can play together.
