As a teacher, I try not to stress rote learning but instead focus on explanations for why music works the way it does. I find that music of any genre is much easier to study if you have an understanding of the framework of what you practice. To that end, I stress technical study that works towards grooming pieces or songs for performance and make sure that my students have a complete understanding of both music and their instrument. In that time, I was given many leadership opportunities including flute choir president and marching band head drum major, allowing me to begin to hone my skills as an educator. Read More

I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Nothing is more rewarding tha seeing a student develop a passion for music and for flute. Read More
