Prior to moving to Chicago, I ran a private flute studio out of my home for 6 years. I have also been on faculty at the Midwestern Music Academy, and was a clinician for the Blue Valley School District. Whilemy love of performinghas been a major motivator for me, my true passion is performing arts advocacy, education, and musical outreach. I will begin by asking a student what their goals are when it comes to playing the flute. I will base my teaching material and instructions methods off of this consultation and tune specifically to each student. If a student comes in knowing nothing, I will start with the very basics of the instrument (instrument set up and care, sound production, fingerings etc.). once they have the building blocks, I can them begin teaching them the specifics of whatever genre they want to focus on, be it classical, jazz, soul, hip hop etc. Read More

In essence, my love of teaching stems from my Mom's love of teaching. She sincerely desired to teach my siblings and myself to pursue our highest dreams. It turned out that I did succeed as a star performer in music, on stages around the world. But also, when I decided to settle down, I added education to my 10-year plan. So, I went back to school for another master's degree, and taught music in CPS - performing three nights per week with my the Bartels/Benson duo, Connexion Band, Prohibition Orchestra, Bryan Skyler Trio, and other groups. In 2010, I graduated from VanderCook College of Music with a Bachelor's in Music Education. I have played in a variety of instrumental ensembles on different instruments, from euphonium, trombone, marimba and drum-set to name a few. I am motivated to helping people accomplish their goal of learning their instrument. As a pianist, I took classes from IU that broadened my capability as a teacher to teach everything from general, choral, and instrumental music. I had my senior piano solo recital. I have a diverse range of performing experiences as a vocalist, including Opera, International Vocal Ensemble, and show choirs. With voice lessons, I have learned a lot about singing and being able to teach healthy singing.
