I had a wonderful opportunity to start teaching piano at the same place that I took piano throughout high school KD Music Arts, about 8 years ago. Since then, Ive taught piano and voice to students a variety of ageskids and adults! I love arranging my younger students favorite songs that they hear on the radio so they can play them on the piano, sometimes even playing rhythm video games on my Nintendo 3DS to brush up on their music theory skills :) I want my students to finish a lesson feeling like the possibilities that they have with music are endless. The first time I began teaching music was shortly after graduating high school, and asking local band directors to get some experience with their summer band, and marching band programs. While studying music in college, I received further training in classrooms outside of music to further develop my skills. It was during this period I that began to find joy from one-to-one learning. For my first class with my students, I typically would get to know them in terms of their goals, experience as a singer, and get to know where they are in their pursuit of those goals they set for themselves. After which, I would do warm-up exercises, vowel, and consonant work, and establish fundamentals of vocal techniques for the desired genre. Once the student feels more comfortable with their voice, I would suggest an introductory repertoire (usually an Art Song) according to their age, level, voice type, and their personality. Read More

For Vocalists, the very foundation of proper singing will be taught: Posture, Breath Management, Muscle/Core Control, and Vowel Placement. These are the basics of good singing, in any genre.  I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.  But don't worry! In 2010, I graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelor of Music degree in vocal performance. I started teaching private lessons while in college and loved it so much I never stopped!
