I do not believe in the "cookie-cutter" teaching method, which means that I do not utilize the same teaching method with every student. I realize that each student is a unique individual with different learning preferences. With each student, I design a different approach that caters to the student's needs. I will use a calender or notebook to track the progress of every week for each student, so that he/she can always refreshes when he/she practices at home. Also, I will recommend several recordings to students to listen to, and try to analyze those music in very understandable sense so that students can have fun in their instrumental learning. Learning music entails much more than just playing a song. I am sure to incorporate theory, ear training, history, technique, and performance skills into the learning process. The goal is to teach the student to be a well-rounded musician and develop all of the skills needed to understand and fully enjoy the entire musical experience. Prior to moving to Chicago, I ran a private flute studio out of my home for 6 years. I have also been on faculty at the Midwestern Music Academy, and was a clinician for the Blue Valley School District. Whilemy love of performinghas been a major motivator for me, my true passion is performing arts advocacy, education, and musical outreach. I have been involvedwith numerous non-profit organizations both in Chicago and Kansas City and have found that my greatest joy comes from sharing my love of music with others through education and outreach.
