I began teaching flute 10 years ago and successfully ran a private flute studio out of my home, which incldued students of all ages, skill levels and backgrounds. I encourage regular practice, instrument maintenance, and practice journaling for my beginning students, which helps to promote progress and enjoyment of music making. Tommy has been teaching since 2017. He has taught in both one-on-one and group lessons for students of all ages. Tommy has taught flute, clarinet, saxophone, and theory lessons to both beginning students and at the collegiate level. Tommy also performs with many different ensembles across a wide variety of genres. I feel that as children all have differing learning styles, it is best to let them gain/maintain information in their own way. It is also important for students to have multiple ways of getting the information/materials and presenting what they have learned in multiple ways as well. Once that connection is established, I like to find out the students interests and make sure a personal goal is set that we can achieve together.
