I teach each student based on their needs and goals. Fundamentals are key to playing well. I always want learning to be fun but effective. I teach the student how to practice to reach goals and help the student set goals. I teach in terms of musicality followed by technicality. Tone is what allows a performer to tell a story, but technique is also key. By developing a strong sense of fundamentals, musicality is easier to achieve. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my high school days, as I began teaching private lessons and running sectionals at the conservatory in my hometown. I have been consistently teaching students since either in my home studio, or at different private and public institutions. I have held different faculty positions in colleges in the past 6 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I studied flute for about a year while playing valve trombone in local Detroit area bands. Mostly I have studied flute through personal study and affiliations with musicians with similar interests (improvisatory music). My formal studies were mainly low brass, then voice (two years private instruction at Wayne State University). I feel that my qualifications pale when compared to learning from "jam session" and playing jobs locally I feel "blessed" being able to share my music and views concerning the arts with friends and students.
