This means treating each student as an individual, recognizing that each student may have different goals and learning styles, and teaching and planning lessons accordingly. I believe strongly in teaching from a place of encouragement and empathy. Lessons are a safe space for students to ask questions, make mistakes, and grow. I love teaching private lessons, and I have 12 years of experience doing so.  I have been playing flute for 26 years, and I earned my Bachelor's in Music Education and Flute Performance from SUNY Fredonia, and my Master's degree in Flute Performance from the Hartt School. I have performed with many different performers and ensembles including: the Chelsea Symphony, SEM Ensemble, Hartt Independent Chamber Orchestra, the Long Island flute ensemble, jazz bass legend, Nat Reeves, the Jalapeño Quartet, traditional Irish harpist Hailey Hewitt, guitarist Oren Fader, and the Alturas Duo.  I have performed at Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, for Composer's Voice Concert Series, the Connecticut Guitar Society, many public libraries, the Windsor Historical Society, the New Britain Museum of Art, the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, Windsor Art Center, and the Wadsworth Museum of Art, among others. I'm a dedicated performer and teacher who looks forward to each student's unique strengths and interests in music. In 2010, I began my undergraduate education in Flute Performance at the renowned University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. I've enjoyed learning new performing styles by participating in competition and groups from across the United States. My musical background is diverse. For beginning and intermediate students, I like to assign short pieces from method books such as Student Instrumental Course and Rubank. For more advanced students, I will help them explore their particular interests, introduce them to traditional repertoire, and for jazz/rock/pop students, aid them in the process of transcribing the music they love, which benefits their vocabulary as well as their ears. In addition to seeing music through each individual student's eyes, I foster a sense of community by encouraging communication, coordinating chamber music and performing recitals, and providing other means of continued learning. I make myself available via email and phone, always doing everything I can to continue the students' engagement outside of their lesson. In 2005, he won the 1st prize at the Houston flute club, Denise Jennings Memorial Solo & Ensemble Competition Professional level, also has selected one of 5 finalists of the Byron Hester memorial competition. His most recent recital includes Duo Indiana 2011 in a sold out performance with pianist Akiko Iguchi in Japan, and Back to Baroque with the Renovo String Orchestra at the Music Institute of Chicago September 2011. Most recent performance includes Duo Reital in Tokyo, Japan with pianist Vladimir Valjarevic in August 2012, "Sonatas And Birds."
