Hello potential piano protégé ! ...Being a piano protégé as a child myself, I have been teaching piano, organ and flute for over 30 years since and I currently have students that range from children to adults. Included in your piano study is reading music, ear training, finger exercises, classical music, popular music and the students favorite songs. Lessons are usually 30 or 45 minutes long. I am a keyboard and composition major at Stony Brook University and play many musical styles like pop, standards, classical, jazz and rock 'n roll. Read More

I am a multi-instumentalist/performer/teacher who loves working with students of all ages and musical backgrounds. My specialty is classical music, but I am also a singer/songwriter! I have a masters degree in Oboe Performance from the prestigious CCM, at the University of Cincinnati. I live as a freelance oboist, pianist, and vocalist in New York City, and am currently recording my first full length album. While oboe and piano are my wheelhouse, I feel comfortable teaching the following instruments: guitar, clarinet, flute, bassoon, ukulele, and folk/pop voice. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a method book (my method book preference varies depending on the instrument). At the early stages, the fundamentals of music are essential. My philosophy of music is that any student is capable of achieving anything they want, as long as they put their mind to it and they work hard. I started playing the saxophone in second grade; however, there were basic fundamentals that I was still learning in college. Read More

I began teaching flute students as a high school student myself, and taught a few lessons in college. I admit my experience is limited, but I definitely have the knowledge, the expertise, and the passion it takes to make a great teacher, as well as having several music teachers with long, successful careers in my family that I can turn to for mentoring. I first ask the student to play so I can hear him/her. After a student plays a short piece of music of their own choosing I can determine what the next step is. Each student has his/her own individual needs. In general though I focus on 3 key elements: 1) Sound quality 2) Technical dexterity (how the fingers deal with the twists and turns of the instrument) 3) Reading Music If a student has a specific genre of music that he/she wants to focus on then I mainly concentrate on that. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More
