My Name is Taylor Clay, and I am a passionate and driven performer and educator who loves working with students and inspiring them to reach their full potential.  In 2012, I graduated from the Crane School of Music in New York with a Bachelor of Music degree in Saxophone Performance.  During that time I studied classical, jazz and latin music. At the start of the lesson, I will emphasize tone and air control which I've found makes a huge difference as a warm up. The primary books I will work out of are Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. As students progress and I feel that they have a handle on the basics, I will slowly start to incorporate other repertoire that will be exciting to play and perform. Also, it's never too early to start teaching scales and having students memorize them which will greatly help and improve their technical ability. Read More

Some of the books my students have studied out of are the Rubank Intermediate/Advanced books and the Melodious and Progressive Studies edited by Cavally. In addition, I have each student regularly work on solo literature so that they can put their hard work on fundamentals into practice. Read More

I also organize events involving live music, art, and food to promote Denver's local artists and raise awareness for Orpheus Music + Arts Festival: a project I started last year and plan to keep cultivating. I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. Beyond that I have a large library of supplementary music to expand the students interest with new styles and composers.I'm very flexible with the method books and after I get to know the student I can select a method that would work the best for instruction. Developing a passion for music and having the confidence to perform is why I love my job. I love seeing my students achieve goals. I believe setting goals and accomplishing them are important, so I support my students until the end. Being able to perform and having the ability to capture an audience, first starts with the performer. I believe gaining confidence through an instrument is possible. I encourage students to tell me their goals and dreams so I can do my best to allow them to come true. Read More
