I am an instructor that focuses on building the whole musician. I can teach multiple disciplines including classical, baroque, jazz, latin jazz, Brazilian, rock, middle eastern, and others. In the last several years I have learned about flute pedagogy and teaching artistry from Marco Granados, audition repertoire and standard repertoire from the BSO's Clint Foreman, and baroque flute/period performance from Na'ama Lion. My philosophy is that flute instruction should extend beyond western concert music and conventional repertoire to build versatile musicians prepared for the modern musical world through a Socratic teaching method that builds the desire to learn. Moving Forward, Nava has trained under world-renowned soloist Mimi Stillman at Temple University and starting Fall 2022, she will be continuing her masters in Flute Performance with Professor Janet Arms under John Cali Music Scholarship at Montclair State University. Nava has had the opportunity to play in masterclasses of several renowned flutists such as Carol Wincenc (Juilliard professor), Leone Buyse (Rice professor), Nancy Stagnita (Interlocken professor), Emma Gerstein (Associate Principal Flute in the Chicago Symphony), April Clayton (Brigham Young University Professor) and Denis Bouriakov (principal flutist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and UCLA professor). For beginning students who are children, I often use the Andrew Scott Method for flute. When the student is considerably advance I will use the Rubank Book for flute begginers. Once the student is at a comfortable level, I will proceed to introduce him to Body Mapping. For adults, I will prefer to first of all know more about their learning abilities, other experiences with music/sports. Than, I will find out more what they are looking to learn and work from there. For beginner piano students I generally work out the Faber Piano Adventures and for adults I use The Older Beginner Piano Course by Bastien. For Flute students I use the Trevor Wye Beginners Book for the Flute. Clarinet I use the Rubank Method books. Once the essentials are learned I will add in various solo pieces and other method books pending on each student and their music interests. Read More
