My educational background includes a Single Subject Teaching Credential, and a Bachelor and Masters Degree in classical and jazz studies.  As an educator, I have produced outcomes of first place awards with superior ratings in instrumental music festival/competitions local and statewide. For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonards Essential Elements book, as well a basic understanding of music. Once the student has progressed to have a nice grasp of the fundamentals of music, I usually begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. I, Michael G. Turner, breathe through music. My love for music began at a very early age and I was blessed to realize, very soon, that it was my passion.I began performing at the age of 13 on clarinet, in voice, and on drums and percussion. Most of my early performance experience was obtained in church, school, and in my older brothers' Top 40 band. He was on the autism spectrum but also suffered from a variety of processing impairments. He would socialize with me more than other autistic students I'd worked with, which definitely facilitated instruction, but to get the most out of that, I had to stay on subject matter that sparked not just his interest but his joy, on a constantly rotating basis. I really enjoy working with students to figure out what their passion is within the wide scope of music. In 2013, I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from George Washington University, where I studied a range of genres (including jazz, classical, and musical theatre) and instruments (voice, piano, flute, and even some latin percussion).
