I am passionate about providing a top quality private flute education. I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Music Education in 1994. I continued my flute studio and became a band director in 2000 and taught band in North and South Carolina until 2014. I worked on my masters degree in music eduation from the University of North Carolia at Pembroke and received 18 hours graduate credit. I then moved to South Carolina and completed a masters in education from Lesley University in 2012. Read More

For beginners, I use Rebecca Simonfalvi's called "Potential Contender." It is geared for young children starting out in band. For adults, I generally move between Trevor Wye's "Beginners book for the flute" or the Rubank Elementary Method. If needed, especially with the young, I generally have my students take notes of lessons. I also teach basic theory to give students a deeper understanding of the music. For the advanced student, the focus becomes about fine-tuning fundamentals, and learning repertoire that will propel them forward to the next level. Read More

As I mentioned before, there is no greater reward than to witness students recognizing their own potential for themselves! Therefore, all lessons are built around the student's desires, needs, and talent. All individuals have the ability to learn and play an instrument and this is something I strongly believe in. I am a very open minded teacher who encourages "outside of the box" approaches and loves to explore different ideas to gain a full understanding of musical gestures, styles, and mastery. Read More

I began teaching privately since 2004. Here in US, I taught at The New England Conservatory Preparatory School and Berklee College of Music Outreach Program as well at University Of North Texas as a teacher fellow. After several years teaching, I have learned that every students is a different world. Somehow my teaching protocol I will be always customized or adjust to the student's capacity. But one very important factor doesn't change, I'm referring to a consistency on individual practice between lessons. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs in the style they want to learn. p> Read More

Since most of the students I teach are members of a band program, I make sure that most of my lessons are based on what is being learned at school. Planning an individual practice schedule is imperative for their success but at the same time make it enjoyable so the student will want to practice. Constant acknowledgement of their progress each lesson the student more eager to learn. Even though the school program may require students to learn from specific material, I also tailor instruction to music they enjoy performing. Read More

I believe that it is important to tailor lessons to my individual students, helping to foster a love of music and learning. I think it is important for my students to have goals that they are striving to achieve. They can be big goals, like making it into a college of choice, but I also think small ones are important, like mastering the Bb major scale. We work towards goals and celebrate accomplishments together to help drive each student's passion. Read More
