In each lesson the student and myself work to make goals for them to accomplish every week and discuss discuss the ways they might be able to go about accomplishing the goals. Sometimes I will make audio recordings of a student to track progress. For a student to sit and really listen to the improvemnets they have made I find to be one of my best teaching tools. In addition, I have performed in the pit for the musicals Once Upon a Mattress, Fiddler on the Roof, Anything Goes, Oklahoma, and Beauty and the Beast. I have also worked closely with many composers and has premiered new works by Nolan Stolz, Masatora Goya, Sean Pallatroni, Brendon Randall-Myers, and made the world premiere recording of the Delian Suite, from a body of international composers in the Delian Society. I have had many students on flute, clarinet and saxophone over the last ten years and even extending back into high school where I often tutored younger students. My methods first focus on self discipline through inspiration and time efficient practice routines. I have found through empirical evidence that a student can learn more in 20 minutes with focused and disciplined practice than they might in 3 hours of unfocused practice. I began playing the flute when I was in the fourth grade. What started as "the flute is pretty" has turned into a life long passion for music. I became a licensed music teacher in late 2013/early 2014 after graduating from college. I then taught at several part time and temporary music positions before working full time. In college I had the opportunity to direct and teach a community flute choir for adults. Currently I teach private and group lessons to high school students through the Boston Public Public School District.
