I encourage the individual to find what they love about what they're doing to spark growth and personal development. I use real world scenarios and applications for my students to relate and apply their learning through the playing of their instrument. From my pedagogical teachings ive learned that the best approach is a differentiated one. One that is diverse yet unique to the learner and/ or group of learners. I use a linguistic and analytical yet methodological approach to teaching that I find to be VERY Efficient! Read More

My teaching approach begins by meeting the students where they are in regards to musical capability. We soon push the boundaries of what they think they are capable of and allows them to apply the music theory in real time. A consistent schedule, whether it be during our schedule lesson or a follow up email packet, is the distinctive difference in my lesson plans. This practice regimen should continue long after our scheduled lessons and should be one of many vital keys to your child's future successes. Read More

Instruments: Flute Piccolo

For beginning students who are children, I use the Rubank Method for Flute as well as Pares Scales. Once they have become more advanced I assign more challenging etude and scale books. When the student has a grasp of the instrument,I present solo repertoire and orchestral excerpts tailored for each level. I try to keep each student's goals, ability, age, and interests in mind when choosing music to keep the lessons engaging and fun! Read More

Even if you want to learn or continue to learn non-classical styles, it is important to have a basis of classical music training (i.e. reading music, proper counting of rhythms, understanding of chord structures, symbols, music terms, music history). This framework will enhance a student's understanding of the music they are learning. I love students who are positive, eager to learn, and I like to engage my students with different types of music, solos, and exercises for technique. Read More

I generally start off my beginners with A.C. Peterson's Rubank Elementary Method or Bruce Pearson's Standard of Excellence. After they develop the basic skills, I will move the student onto Robert Cavally's Melodious and Progressive Studies etude book. From there, I may introduce solo repertoire into the curriculum. I also find it important to play duets with the students to train the ear in a "proper" tone and intonation. Read More

Instruments: Flute Piccolo

For beginning and intermediate students, I typically start with the basic understanding of the musical staff, note names, and how to associate those names with the flute fingerings. I use a wide variety of method books for students of all ages to gauge what students do and do not know theoretically. Tone production and quality comes from working through breath control and regular exercises from the practices of Geoffrey Gilbert, William Bennet, Marcel Moise, Paul Taffenell, and Eldred Spell.
