For beginning students, I place a large emphasis on the fundamentals i.e. scales, chord progressions etc. I also start them on solo pieces and like them to choose the pieces they are working on. I have been teaching private lessons for over ten years. While pursuing my bachelor’s degree at the University of North Texas, I taught private lessons for students ranging from 10 to 17 years old. I helped them prepare for local competitions, placement playing tests, and even for their college auditions. I also coached several of my colleagues at UNT for chamber music performances, solo competitions, audition tapes, and professional auditions. During my master’s degree at Stony Brook University, I coached my colleagues who are pursuing their DMA’s, and taught an adult student working toward returning to school for a degree in music.
