I am a motivated teacher who loves to teach flute and to share my passion of music. I graduated from San Francisco State University with my Bachelors in Music in Classical Flute Performance. I have studied with Leslie Chin and the second chair of the San Francisco Symphony, Linda Lukas. I have been able to work with some great conductors such as Dr. Martin Seggelke and John Williams. I am currently working on the soundtrack for the upcoming Star Wars film and I have completed the season 5 soundtrack of Game of Thrones in November of 2014.
I have been teaching flute since 2006 in my home studio. It began as being in the music intern for the beginning winds class that my high school had offered and the students who had picked flute had continued lessons with me after the class was over. In 2013, I began teaching for Olga's Piano Studio as the private flute instructor. I primarily teach classical music and tie in one or two styles of music that the student enjoys as well. I always want my students to enjoy their lessons and playing the flute. I always encourage my students to participate in competitions and I do hold recitals twice a year so that the parents can see how well they are doing. I am always available to teach any age and any level!
For flute, I use method books by Trevor Wye. If the student is a beginner, I will start the student with the Beginners Book for the Flute by Trevor Wye (Book 1 and 2.) Once the student is finished with these books, the student is now ready for the intermediate and advanced books by Trevor Wye. It is a set of 5 books that focuses on each aspect of the flute, such as tone and technique. Along with these books, I will teach scales, etudes and begin to build up their repertoire.
When it comes to my teaching style, it is important for the student to learn at their own pace. I will set goals for my students based off of how he or she learns so that they can progress in a way that is comfortable for them. I will never push the student to where he or she is uncomfortable and become discouraged and lose interest. I also encourage the students to ask any questions that they have and that should never feel embarrassed about their questions.
