Every student has different interests and a different learning style. I customize every lesson and lesson plan to meet the needs of my students. The first lesson is focused on my assessment of a students skills, interests, and learning styles. From there I will determine the most useful resources for each student. I will work with the method book that is being used in a student's school, in addition to method books designed for individual skill development such as the Rubank Method Books or Suzuki Method for string instruments. First and foremost, I want a student to be the best that they can be. I do not want a saxophone student to aspire to be like me or somebody else, I want them to be the best version that they can be. Because nobody else can be you other than you. When encouraging my students to be the best that that they can be, I insist that this is only achieved by consistent and efficient work. Read More

1My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 8 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of classical and modern music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the piano and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

I believe in the philosophy of and empty cup. My lessons are not built for me to tell the student what to do, but rather learn how they learn and research the best practices for reaching that student. There is no "cookie cutter" method that works for all students, because everyone learns and comprehends a little bit differently. I remain sensitive to that and patient with my students. It always gets me when a student that is stuck on a part of their music finally understands and performs the passage perfectly. Read More

I prefer a direct, open, creative approach to teaching. I like to get to know my students well, and try to appeal to their greatest areas of interest. I aim to teach the loving and fun nature of music, to expand students' minds, and to provide them with food for thought and methods for improving. I customize each lesson for the student and our mutual expectations. I love to play with my student, finding that aural learning is very effective and allows the student to become comfortable with performance. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with the lesson books you or I provide, preferably Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
Instruments: Piano Flute
For beginning piano students, I use the Faber Piano Adventure series. This series is simple, filled with music theory, and keeps the young student motivated. For beginning flute students, I use the Trevor Wye flute instruction books, along with the curriculum that is being taught in the student's band class at school. As students advance, the next level books are taught, along with solo repertoire for recitals and other performances. Read More
