I normally use the Standard of Excellence method books for most of my students; however, I am open minded to adjusting to each individual student's musical needs, whether it be Jazz, Classical, or whatever style music the student is focusing on. For Drummers, I prefer the Haskell Harr Method, or the Buddy Rich Method Book, as well as the Breeze Easy Method Book. I cannot encourage going to live performances and concerts enough. It can bea concert of any type of music, so longthat itinspires my student to be more passionate about music! I also encourage my students to participate in competitions and recitals, as this opens their world and expands their knowledge about the musical world. For middle school and high school students, I encourage them to work on appropriate solos, scales, and duets we can play together.
