The Timber Creek Regiment is a well recognized and successful band program in Orlando, FL. I became center snare in 2008 and percussion captain in 2009. I was accepted into the Florida State University in 2010, and became a part of the Big 8 Drumline snare line. Between 2010-2014, the Marching Chiefs performed at various social events, football games, fundraisers, parades, soccer games, volleyball games, basketball games, etc. And separately, the Big 8 Drumline performed at more events solo. After we have established the basics on the kit we start to work on rudiments, reading, grip (we will come back to grip a lot,) dynamics, and fills. I always try to provide purpose behind elements in a lesson, an explanation as to WHY we are working on something and HOW it will be used. My teaching style encourages meticulous time keeping and a good feel. The student will learn to count while drumming and also keep real time as in seconds and minutes. The student will learn the importance of the metronome "a mechanical or electrical instrument that makes repeated clicking sounds at an adjustable pace, used for marking rhythm, especially in practicing music."(dictionary.com) The student will learn how to describe time signatures and there application in various drum solo's.
