Syncopation, Stick Control, Wilcoxin, Modern Reading in 4/4, etc... TESTIMONIALS: “I was searching for a drum teacher for my then preteen daughter. She had had other drum teachers, however their approach was one that often left her crying. A friend recommended Matt and so I welcomed him into my home to teach my daughter how to play drums. My daughter took to him immediately and as an administrator in a local school I recognized in Matt the qualities of a great teacher. Matt was gentle, patient, knew when and how to challenge her and above all made learning fun. Matt continued to teach my daughter into her teenage years and when it was time to choose a high school Matt prepared her for her audition at LaGuardia High School. Her acceptance into this fine performing arts school is something I attribute to Matt. I truly feel that he would be a great asset to whatever organization that is lucky enough to have him.” -Nelia W. "My daughter has been studying with Matt for several years and really enjoys it. She is eager to go to class and reports back that she and Matt cover a lot of ground during a relatively short (30-minute) lesson. In addition, the jam sessions that often conclude the lesson are a big hit, enabling her to try out newly-learned skills and hear how they sound when put to music. That, in turn, encourages her to want to take each lesson to the next step. Matt is a terrific teacher!" -Alice Y. "Gabriel took lessons with Matt for five years and really enjoyed learning to play the drums. Matt was great with him and we think he would be great with kids generally. We found him very encouraging, making the lessons and the practicing fun, without being overbearing. In addition, we were all impressed (particularly Amy who studied piano for many years) with his skills as a musician." -Stuart R. "When my fourteen year old son Robert, who has been playing the drums and taking lessons for 7 years, needed a new drum teacher, it was important for me to find the right teacher. We wanted a technical drum instructor with a strong background in jazz as well as someone who would appeal to a young teenager that loves to play classic rock as well. From the very first lesson we knew Matt was that person. Matt is a skilled musician and wonderful teacher. He is a warm person with positive energy and a true professional. At each lesson, Matt instructs Robert, corrects his mistakes while always making him feel at ease. He is respectful and kind and has a great way with kids. I am excited about all the great stuff my son is learning from Matt and I know it will propel Robert to pursue his love for music and keep it a part of his life always." -Michele I.
In general I teach drum rudiments, music notation, a range of styles, drum tuning and setup. As part of my method, I divide my class/lesson into four sections, which begins with warm ups (drum rudiments) and coordination. I devote the second portion of the lesson to reading and playing orchestral snare drum pieces, and in the third section, students practice different types of rhythms and styles . In these lessons, as well as in private classes, I use various drum-method books as well as many music charts. In the last portion of the session, I engage students in an open discussion about their progress, improvements and goals.
When you get behind your drums to practice, what is it that you’re working on? If you’re not taking lessons, you’re probably working on the same beats and fills that you’ve been playing for so many years that you could play them in your sleep. Let me help you expand your musical vocabulary while putting the excitement that comes from playing something new back into your drumming.
Ten years of teaching experience and many years studying the instrument.
Hello! I am a professional drummer and music teacher with over 17 years of experience in the industry. While traveling around the world to perform is my deepest passion, when I am at home I love to share my excitement for music with my students. My goal is to teach each person in a way that best complements his or her unique personality. I try my best to develop individual musicality and creativity while also building the basic technical skills to be able to play in many different styles. I'm a firm believer in the philosophy that music, when pursued properly, is the perfect balance of work and fun, and can bring joy and meaning to your life at whatever level of study.

We love adult students! We have adults who are complete beginners, some who haven't played their instrument in 10 years, and some who are more advanced students looking to take their skills to the next level. The teachers in our network have proven methods to get you the results you desire.
Most students would ideally start with a 5 piece drum kit complete with a high-hat, crash, and ride cymbal, but any student can start with as little as a drum practice pad and a pair of drum sticks. A student can learn to read and play rhythms using both hands using any type of drum, including snare, bongos, conga, or djembe.
Musika offers customized one-on-one music lessons at your home - a time saving solution for busy parents and students. The convenience of in-home lessons allows you to save time without having to transport your child to class, allows your child to maximize their busy schedule, and provides a safe and familiar environment in which to learn.
Since drums are a very physical instrument, requiring long periods of dexterity in the hands and fingers, we suggest students start drum lessons at age 7 or 8. Additionally, a drum student learning from a drum kit should at the very least be able to reach the pedals on the drums.
Teachers will focus on learning rhythms, drum patterns, techniques and will help expose the student to various types of drumming styles. You will be recommended various types of drumming method books which will help you improve on the instrument.

Unbelievably Awesome. My daughter is a beginner and has some special needs. Justin is more than patient and helpful while being completely thorough and pushing her (in a good way) to try harder. He is encouraging and teaches effectively. I am very pleased. More important, so is my daughter. Thank you Musika! So grateful we found your service and connected with Justin. We highly recommend him.

"Mr. Richard has been absolutely perfect for our very active two boys. He has been an excellent fit for gauging and keeping their interest far beyond what we had imagined. Our boys actually argue over who gets to go first. Mr. Richard knocks it out of the park when it comes to exceeding our expectations"

My 4 year old son is quite energetic. Another piano teacher tried to teach him before Peter and could not get my son to listen to him at all. That teacher told me that my son had no interest and that we needed to wait before having my son take lessons. Peter started teaching my son a few weeks later. He quickly developed a great rapport with my son. I was astounded when my son sat down and listened to Peter during the first lesson. Peter has remarkable patience and is a natural working with children. He knows when to follow the child's lead. My son is very interested in how the piano works, so Peter takes the time to teach him about this. He is able to use my son's interests (superheroes, Lego, Star Wars, etc.) to refocus him back to playing the piano. Between lessons, he brainstorms on how he can teach my son better. For example, my son was playing the notes, but not understanding rhythm, so Peter looked into it and came back the next week with a new plan which helped. My son looks forward to his lesson every week. When he hears the doorbell ring on lesson day, he exclaims, "Yay! Peter's here!"

Mrs. Regnarene is an awesome teacher!!! She found musical aids that appealed to my 5 year old daughter and used them to help teach her piano. She has a lot of patience and I could tell she puts in the work before class to have a lesson ready for my daughter. She is always punctual, friendly and respectful. I would recommend her to any parents who want to start their kids off with a good foundation in piano. Jermain T. Riverview, FL

thank you musika and ed. I never thought of looking for an in-home lesson until I found musika. I have absolutely no hesitation that Ed is beyond capable. He's even offered to meet us at a music store to purchase the correct fitting instrument. how fabulous is that! We've also decided to extend the lesson time from 30 to 45 minutes. All this and just one lesson under our belt. He quickly understood where my daughter is at in level and her style of music. I'm thrilled as can be.

I have been playing the drums for about 5 years and I have to say that Alvaro is very patient. He has opened me up to new styles of music and I can now play a Songo groove! What I liked most was that he was flexible in what I wanted him to teach me and would also bring in new material specifically to what I wanted him to show me. Overall, great patient teacher and would highly recommend! Thanks Alvaro!

My daughter began learning sax in her school band, but she didn't begin PLAYING sax until she started lessons with Debra. From scales and exercises to actual pieces, Debra coached my daughter with real insight, sensitivity, and patience. Her knowledge of the instrument and feeling for music - along with her easy-going,"kid friendly" personality - make Debra the ideal teacher and musical mentor.

Rahsaan is an extremely talented player who relates really well with my teenagers. He has them both interested in learning. Given Rahsaan's expertise, it's clear that even though they are beginners now, they can learn from him for a long time to come. He's a real nice laid-back guy and both the boys really enjoy their time with him. I've been very impressed and pleased with the experience.
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
Are you sure that's your only availability? The more availability you easier it will be to arrange a teacher for you.
