Overview:

Hi, I’m Francesco, or just Cesco behind the drums. I touched my first drum kit when I was 14, starting out with the energy and drive of rock music. Over time, that passion expanded into the world of jazz and Afro-Cuban rhythms, where I fell in love with groove, feel, and the deeper musical conversations that happen on the drums. Along the way, I’ve studied with incredible teachers and mentors: Bobby Thomas Jr. (Weather Report), John Cutrone, and currently Rick Dior, whose influence keeps me grounded in both tradition and the joy of drumming. Today, I split my time between teaching beginners and intermediate students (online via Zoom or in person around Stamford/Norwalk, CT) and performing live with bands who need a reliable drummer who listens, supports, and locks in. My approach is simple: keep it musical, keep it fun, and build confidence, whether you’re learning your very first beat, working to take your playing to the next level, or tightening up a setlist for the stage. If you’re looking for lessons and wanting to grow as a musician, let’s connect.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience began over a decade ago, working with students of different ages and skill levels who wanted to explore rhythm and drums. Over the last few years, I’ve been teaching private lessons both in-person and online, with a focus on making drumming approachable and fun for everyone, from complete beginners to more advanced players interested in jazz and Afro-Cuban styles. For younger students, I emphasize consistent practice habits and celebrate every milestone to keep motivation high. I’ve found that blending foundational exercises with music students actually enjoy, whether it’s jazz standards, Latin grooves, or popular pop / rock songs, creates a balance of discipline and excitement that keeps them progressing. Beyond technique, I encourage students to play with others, record themselves, and even create their own rhythms, so they not only improve their skills but also grow a genuine passion for music. I welcome students of all ages and levels who are eager to find their groove.

METHODS USED

When teaching drums, it's important to have a structured approach that addresses the various aspects of drumming, such as technique, rhythm, dynamics, and musicality. Here's a general overview of the methods I would use: Technique Development: Proper technique is crucial for playing the drums effectively and avoiding injury. I would focus on teaching the proper grip, sticking patterns, and other technical exercises that help develop control, speed, and accuracy. Rhythm Training: Rhythm is the foundation of drumming, so I would make sure to incorporate exercises and exercises that help students develop their sense of timing, groove, and feel. This might include playing along with metronomes, drum loops, or other rhythm tracks, and practicing various rhythms from different musical styles. Dynamics and Musicality: Playing the drums is not just about technique and rhythm, but also about expression and musicality. I would encourage students to experiment with different dynamics and to try to convey emotion through their playing. This might include working on variations in volume, playing with different textures and articulations, and learning to play in different musical styles. Custom Lesson Plans: In addition to using established methods, I also believe in creating custom lesson plans that are tailored to the individual student's needs and goals. This might involve incorporating the student's favorite songs, working on specific areas of weakness, and setting goals for improvement. Overall, when teaching drums, I would aim to provide a well-rounded education that covers the essential elements of drumming, while also being flexible and adaptable to the individual student's needs and interests.

LESSON STYLE

Nothing excites me more than watching a student discover their own love for music and rhythm. I believe every drummer learns differently, so I focus on helping each student progress at a pace that feels both comfortable and motivating. My lessons combine realistic, achievable goals with plenty of encouragement, so that every milestone feels like a win. I also take time to understand what excites each student—whether it’s jazz, Afro-Cuban grooves, or simply playing along to their favorite songs—so I can tailor my approach to their unique interests. By balancing structure with creativity, I aim to make learning the drums not just educational, but deeply enjoyable and inspiring.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
