For beginning students, I like to stress fundamentals with a twist. I encourage my students to play along with music they like to keep them interested in what they are practicing. As the student progresses, I will either compose a short solo or provide a short solo in which they can apply fundamentals to. For intermediate and more advanced students, I like to let them guide their own instruction. After coming to me with topics they'd like to learn more about, I will provide exercises, musical examples, and pieces to help them assimilate what they have learned with me, to real-world examples. My experience started when I was 7 years old. At 12, I graduated from classical guitar school and started to perform concerts at various events in my hometown. At 15 I heard rock music and that became my passion to this day. Then I started playing in different rock and metal bands. I started composing my own music. I have taught drum instruction and Jazz ensemble at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music for 20 years. In addition I developed and implemented elementary music programs for K-5 thru 4th grade for schools in the NY vicinity. Upon moving to the Milwaukee area I have taught private and group instruction for the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, Elementary Music K-5 thru 8th grade at St. Josaphat's school, Music Therapy and intergenerational activities at the Lutheran Home, private studio and now Musika. I am a long-time musician and educator; I have been doing both professionally since I was sixteen-years-old. My first student was my band director's son. My first gig was with a polka band. I now have a masters degree in ethnomusicology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a masters degree in music performance from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee along with a certificate of advanced study in chamber music.
