my teaching style is fun and fast. as each student progresses at their own pace. it is very important to set realistic goals. i motivate kids by giving them stickers for each exercise they passed. and that allows them to study and practice more. after they finish a method book, they receive a certificate of achievement. i can successfully guide students thru any challenges they go thru in the music learning process. that gives them the motivation to keep going. i teach them discipline and to have a consistent practicing schedule. I began teaching privately during the spring of 2018. I taught private orchestral percussion and drum set lessons at my home studio as well as high schools in the area. Since then, I accepted a position as a summer music instructor at Lakes Community High School in Lake Villa, IL. I taught 5th - 8th graders who were interested in getting more involved in their own music programs. I am eager to find more opportunities to spread music within various communities. Read More

For young and beginning students, I focus intently on proper technique (holding of sticks, timing, 4-way coordination, etc.) to ensure a proper foundation for success. For older and experienced students, I look to work on a wide range of styles to help the student understand the nuances of performance techniques and promote an understanding of how interconnected various performance styles are. This ensures the student is capable of performance with a wide variety of bands and can adapt to other musicians. Read More

I try to keep lessons fun even though there's aspects that might be boring. So, I will switch from snare drum to drum set. Learning how to combine rudiments with drum set music such as jazz and rock is very beneficial. When my students are having trouble with a certain area, I do well with taking out that area and making a drill out of it. One of my specialties is that I will play the bass with students for various styles so they can have a hands on experience of the relationship of a rhythm section, phrasing, and timing. Read More

First things first. We will use ourearsto learn music before we spend time reading what musiclooks likeon paper. This is especially true when learning to play the drum set. How many rock or jazz drummers do you see reading music on stage? This is not because they can't, rather it shows that drum set playing is more about interpreting music--not necessarily playing it exactly the same all the time. This skill involves our ears, not our eyes. Read More

A beginner private lesson will usually begin with wrist and finger exercises that establish technical foundation for exploring other rudiments. Secondly, teaching music notation. The four basic ways to divide the pulse and how they are notated. Third, 3 way co-ordination. Use of one foot and hands together. (Usually beginning and intermediate rock beats) Lastly, Application of all of the above to a musical situation. For intermediate and advanced students fundamental technique is still and will always be a part of how to better control and co-ordinate hands and feet. Read More
