Instruments: Drums Music
The most important thing when learning a new instrument is having fun! That is the goal in all of my lessons. This is why after a review of what we learned in the previous lesson, I always introduce something new! Every week you will have something new to practice, whether it is based on the previous week's material or a completely new concept. It is important to practice everything you learn in order to develop muscle memory. Read More

Ever since high school, I have enjoyed teaching other students. In college, I would travel to nearby schools to tutor middle and high school instrumental students. My first job out of college was teaching at a charter school where I saw all the students in the school for 9 week periods. We established an after school band where private lessons were the main form of growth. In my next job, I taught students from beginning, in sixth grade, through their senior year of high school. In 2010-2012 I was a graduate assistant at the University of Southern Mississippi where I taught private lessons and rehearsed the percussion ensembles and steel drum ensemble. In addition to my teaching practices, I have conducted many clinics in the southeast region and have been on the Vic Firth Education team since 2004. Teaching is a way of life for me and I love to see students light up with enthusiasm when they have surpassed their own expectations. Read More

I first started teaching music in 2014. I began as a guitar instructor, then made my way into teaching piano, drums, and bass as well. I believe that the best way to teach a student how to play an instrument is to first teach them how to play music. In my experience I have found that allowing students to try several different instruments and participate in group jams with other musicians teaches them to fall in love with making music. Read More
Instruments: Drums
For beginning students, I start with getting comfortable holding the drum sticks and understanding how to properly strike the drumhead. Students will be introduced to basic notes and rhythms that will help them along the way. Beginning students start on drum pads and progressively move towards actual drums. For students that are in band at their school, I can reinforce what is being taught by their band director and give extra guidance. Read More

One of my main jobs after graduating The Institute of Production and Recording was teaching music lessons. Since 2011 I've taught drums and piano lessons for various companies from ages 3-40. To see a student who has a serious passion for music grow from not knowing anything about the piano or drums to making music is probably one of the most fulfilling feelings I could have. I believe making a connection with the student fuels the connection to the music. Read More

My teaching approach begins by meeting the students where they are in regards to musical capability. We soon push the boundaries of what they think they are capable of and allows them to apply the music theory in real time. A consistent schedule, whether it be during our schedule lesson or a follow up email packet, is the distinctive difference in my lesson plans. This practice regimen should continue long after our scheduled lessons and should be one of many vital keys to your child's future successes. Read More
