My students have been from all ages and different proficiency levels, which has given me the experience of adapting myself to a variety of the students' learning approaches. For beginning piano students, I often get them started with the Faber piano series, then incorporate music theory along with their song requests. For beginning fretted string students (guitar/bass/ukelele), I like to start with the Hal Leonard method book to get started with reading notation, so that we cover more than just tabs and chords. Since every student has different goals I like to plan my lessons accordingly. I found it very useful to devide the lesson into 3 parts : Technique, reading and drumset studies. Whether the student is excited about rock, pop, jazz, hiphop or samba, this method creates a solid foundation for the drummer's ultimate goal - to groove on the drumset! For beginners I usually begin with Stick Control by George Lawrence Stone and Fundamental Studies for Snare Drum by Garwood Whaley. Once the student has a good grasp on basic reading and technique, I usually introduce rudiments and start working on solo or play along repertoire.
