For beginning students I start with an Alfred's beginning drum method to help with reading. We also start on the basic understanding of musical concepts such as tempo, dynamics and so on. While reading is important I do also include learning by wrote or by ear. A good ear is just as important as good reading skills for the complete musician. I always include music that the student is interested in to keep the lessons fun and engaging! Read More

My favorite piano method book for children is the Bastien Piano Basics Series. Alternately, I sometimes use the Faber & Faber Piano Adventures. For very young children (3-6) "My First Piano Adventure," a Faber publication, is my book of choice. For adults, I usually use Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course, though sometimes I skip method books and play pieces picked by the student. When teaching drums/percussion, my method books of choice are Standard of Excellence and Winning Rhythms. Read More

The main books that I like to work on for a beginner student are stick control by George Lawrence Stone Realistic Rock written by Carmine Appice I also do a lot of work with the 40 drum rudiments also I find it very enjoyable to use books by Chaz w i l k o z I have also written a book which has many many contemporary drum pills about time and many of the Great drummers styles which I will use to teach I also like to use transcriptions from some of the favorite recordings of all time led Zeppelin Rush and many other popular bands of our time you can ask you as a student can decide on which bands and which drummers that you want to cover I also enjoy working with great play alongs music minus one tracks that are very very cool to play without the drums so you can get an idea of how to actually play with a band Read More

I have been teaching since I was 16. I frequently ran sectionals in my high school as well as at multiple youth orchestras. I taught privately on and off throughout high school and college. I encourage regular practice and help build problem-solving skills because in the end, you are your own best teacher. I also believe that the student should get exactly what they want out of their lessons, so we can be as flexible as we want with styles and of course, have fun! Read More

When it comes to teaching piano I use the faber method. I like the combination of theory, ear training, and sight-reading that it offers as those are fundamental skills to be a good musician. If they are able to successfully complete those books, I go into solo repertoire and work on fingering techniques as well as reading music off a lead sheet as you never know when you want to play something and the sheet music is not available. The way I've always approached music and teaching is with a sense of humilty and thanks. It is a true joy to be able to pass on the knowledge and lessons I've learned throughout my experience to those who are excited and passionate. To communicate the artistry of great songwriters, composers and performers, past and present, is both a privilege and a challenge. With that in mind, I set realistic goals for my students by teaching basic fundamental techniques and applying them to repertoire that is fun, recognizable, expressive and practical. Read More

I teach rudiments, technique, and reading drum charts for my beginner students. Wity more advanced students, we study sightreading, and explore different styles of drumming. Typically, I favor using drum method books, and listening to recordings for students to use and listen to in between lessons. Keeping a steady tempo is of course an essential part of good drumming -- I use a metronome to help mystudents achieve that skill, and encourage them to use one when practicing. Read More
