My main philosophy is that every student is different and should be treated accordingly. The methods I use are specifically tailored to each student and can be methods that I have learned or developed myself. I start students off by asking them collect ideas about their instrument and the music they enjoy. From that point, I begin to simultaneously teach technique and musicianship in relation to their expressed interests. The key to my teaching method is that I ask difficult questions and then I give the student time to think and develop an answer. Read More

I have a little card taped toa bookcase in my living room that says: "Give 'em something they can DO." This means the students needs to be able to put things into action, into motion. Everything will make more sense for you when you physicallyDO it. Then my card says, "Give 'em something theyCAN do." This is an important distinction! When the activities are do-able, from the very beginning, students experience success andtheir confidence begins to grow. Read More

I began teaching shortly before I graduated high school in 2012. My high school had a very successful marching band program and was closely tied with a local drum corps, which helped me become experienced in leading group rehearsals and clinics for drumlines and front ensembles around this time. Leading in to college, I continued this and also began teaching students individually which only helped to underline my love of teaching! Read More

I started teaching when I was 18, still in high school. I have been taking lessons for 15 years at that point, and felt the need to share my experiences and knowledge with everyone around me. I found a lesson studio that had students for me to teach and since then I have been teaching private lessons, group classes, drum circles and at the professional college level for 12 years. While teaching, I try toincorporate my professional experiences and relate those to concepts that the student is working on. Read More

For beginners, I like to start with the basics. Students will learn proper stick positions, basic rhythms, tempo, and count. A lot of work is done primarily on the snare drum, progressing to the full set when the student is ready. Once the student has a handle on the fundamentals, I can then have them play along with a simple song. I am using a Roland V-Drums electronic set for instruction, so any source of music can be played through the set, and the drums then mixed in with the song. Read More

I love teaching and seeing students progress in their skill. No student is like the next and I do my best to create an atmosphere for each student to get the most out of their time with me. I also make sure the understand how they should be practicing and the effective ways to practice. It is not as simple as saying, "Practice double strokes this week". The student needs to understand why they are learning the rudiment, tendencies of poor technique and how to monitor progress. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
