I began teaching music lessons over a decade ago while I was as a junior in high school and continue to teach to this day. While studying music at Umass Lowell, I taught for two years at the local music store, University Music. There, I worked with a diverse array of students from toddlers to adults, many of whom spoke english as their secondary language. After transferring to Umass Amherst to finish my degree, I began teaching at both Guitar Center in Portsmouth, NH and Zach Field Drum Studios in Newburyport, MA. Read More

I've had a lot of opportunities to sort my teaching out. I realize that if the student doesn't get it, it may be that I'm not putting it across effectively. So I had better try to slow things down or speed them up, model rather than explain, or vice versa! And always try smarter before trying harder, even though harder may be the right approach. Because in addition to teaching music I'm teaching approaches to learning. Read More

I have been teaching music since 2005. I started as an in home music instructor, providing guitar, bass and piano lessons to people of all ages in their homes. As my teaching experience grew, I've added drums and ensemble/group lessons to my repertoire. I've also been hired as a bass and guitar instructor and curriculum director by a number of private music schools in and around the Boston area. My lessons focus on creating excitement and enthusiasm for the instrument through playing examples, live playing or "jamming" and encouraging the student to develop a consistent practice schedule. Every lesson is wrapped up with an obtainable goal for the next week. This will entirely depend on the student's level and individual goals for the instrument. Everyone has the end product in mind when it comes to learning an instrument. When someone picks up a Guitar, the learning process is not the first thing they think of: they think of the stage and sounding like their heroes. I'm here to remind all my students that there should never be an end; music is a never ending journey! Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time about 10 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I've also found that a combination of different styles of music can go a long way in helping students enjoy the drums, and motivate them to practice and continue to learn. Read More

No matter how much technical skill one can acquire, it means nothing if it hasnt been learned and applied in conjunction with music. A students own personal voice on the instrument must be allowed to develop, and his/her creative intuition must not be smothered. Playing an instrument is fun, and is an outlet for personal expression. As a teacher, I vow to treat it as such and to convey every ounce of my own passion to my students. Read More

A class once or twice a week is beneficial I believe for keeping up the continuity of practice. We will work on first the guitar as an instrument, basic chords, chord structures, some basic scales, and over time making chord changes happen as the minds memory/muscle memory for remembering chords grows! This is crucial for making the basic song happen. I encourage my students to find a handful of songs they really enjoy and may want to learn, so that we can learn them piece by peice. Read More
