I use the first lesson to find out what the student is inspired by and what aspect of their playing they wish to improve on depending on their age and skill level. I like to give the student the correct tools and exercises to make them a great musician and drummer in any style of music they would like to play. For beginning students I believe in building a solid foundation in technique and appreciation for the drum set. This is something that I try to move through fairly quickly as to help the student progress to material that they are interested in. From there we will continue to build their foundation, but by learning from material that they have brought in. For more advanced players, I will help you explore tonal and sonic capabilities beyond what you may have achieved already. If you are more interested in building a technique playing we can get very methodical studying from the books but if you really want to play, we are gonna play! A big part of my teaching is playing with the students or creating sequences (play alongs) so the student practices music in context. In 2016 I graduate from The Collective School of Music in NYC with a Diploma in Music and Professional Drummer Performer. Navarro is a part of the liberation-oriented free jazz collective, Irreversible Entanglements.
