One of my main jobs after graduating The Institute of Production and Recording was teaching music lessons. Since 2011 I've taught drums and piano lessons for various companies from ages 3-40. To see a student who has a serious passion for music grow from not knowing anything about the piano or drums to making music is probably one of the most fulfilling feelings I could have. I believe making a connection with the student fuels the connection to the music. Read More

I started teaching private lessons in high school, for free, to other students in the percussion section of both the concert and marching bands. Shortly after starting as a music major at Asbury Univeristy I continued to teach lessons. During my collegiate years I also was involved in taking private lessons and playing for all available percussion-needed ensembles (concert band, jazz band, orchestra, etc.). Consistenly since leaving high school I have also played in both rock bands and wedding bands and I consider these to be extremely helpful in my teaching experience. Read More

Percussion in a huge family of instruments. As a percussionist, you might be ask to play drum set one night, congas the next, and triangle the night after that! Over time, I have collected many methods for all the different instruments and styles that the percussionfamily encompasses. Depending on what you want to learn, I have a method or we can tailor something just for you. Read More

During my lessons, I remain very flexible. Every student is different. We all have our good and bad days. Staying tuned in to my students helps me know what they need at any moment. Sometimes we need to push a little harder, and sometimes we need to slow down a bit. The time of day, the weather, the time of year and many other factors affect how a student feels when they sit down to work with me. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. I access their skills after a handful of lessons and adjust to their needs going forward for them to continue to advance as musicians. Read More

I love seeing students realize their own progress. I always like to start with recording a first attempt and then recording it again once it has been mastered so they can see their progress. I focus on positive reinforcement teaching. It is very easy, especially for a new student, to get bogged down in not making progress fast enough so I like to make sure they see all the steps they're taking and also know where it will lead them. I believe music instruction should be thrilling and rewarding, and leave the student eager to play more! Maintaining the smile that comes from the joy of expanding skills and creating a unique world of sound is my calling, and I believe every student deserves the chance to experience that. Music can be used to develop social skills and expand self-awareness, as well as two stimulate both right and left brain thinking. Read More
